Zizi Afrique Foundation
ALiVE Initiative

Action for Life Skills and Values (ALiVE) seeks to enhance the capacity of at least 50% adolescents in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to acquire life skills and values. This will enable them to navigate a life leading to improved learning, health, economic levels, responsibility and citizenship, and societal contribution. This is an initiative of 8 organizations across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, coordinated at Zizi Afrique Foundation.

Strengths

  • Collaboration – learning how to work together as different organizations.
  • Learning about learning – we have developed a formative learning framework that helps us to capture and use learning.
  • Working with government.
  • We have experimented with options for aligning our system change ambition to system priorities, and getting to work together in and out of the system.
  • We have developed a contextualised tool to assess problem solving, collaboration, self-awareness and respect, and developed a way of assessing adolescents 13-17 years on 21st century skills.
  • Capacity development of system players as pathway to relationship building. An ALiVE Academy that is strengthening capacities as core ingredient to movement building.
  • Getting funders to understand our work, and persuade them to fit to us, rather than us fitting to their priorities.
